It’s the same at my school,
if you have no pin it means your pregnant
facing up your in a relationship
facing down your single
if it’s on a slant it means your bi/lesbian/gay…
but to be honest nobody makes a big deal out of it. i’ve forgotten to wear my pin many times and nobody comes up and asks if your pregnant and no rumors get started or anything. so don’t worry about it! References :

The pin can be up or down.
I’ve heard that up means you are a lesbian, and down means you are straight.
Beyond that, I don’t think anyone really notices, or even knows for sure what it means, as it is different at every school.
I think pointing down is more common so that means that you’re straight/not pregnant? References :
