As a matter of fact, yes up until the early 60′s. Also there were saddle shoes that were all white with wine color leather across the top middle and the bottoms were a bit thick with cork like material. The poodle skirts were worn with crenalins or those slips that were wide and stiff so that the skirt would be like a fan. Leather jackets and pants were in style especially for the guys who picked up the girls. The girls always wore pony tails with ribbons, fine hankerchiefs or even ties made of gingham, and plaid done in bows to match the clothes. Ankle socks were also instyle. The girls ankle socks were realy up to the calves then folded down to the ankle and many would roll the tops down to the ankle so as to look like ankle bracelets. The guys with the tight leather pants wore them above the ankles with white socks also. For the guys hair, Brill Cream, Alberto V-0 5 was for styling the hair and dippity doo was what the girls used along with Adorn hair spray.
Make up for the girls was lipstick and face powder.
Music was rock and roll with Chubby Checker, Richie Valens, Elvis Presley and many others.
The boys always liked to race each other at night on the "stips" or roads that were at night lonley. There is so much more, but the 50′s was a fun era.
