Really is this even a question? Maybe if you can answer yes to any of these questions the RIGHT answer will be obvious:

1. Any stairs in the school?
2. Will she be siting down at a desk that is open in front?
3. If you bought the same length skirt (relative to your/her height) would you wear it, and not feel like you are flashing everyone?

(In case you have missed ther obvious:
3 YES's = NO she should not wear it to school.)

Uh..NO. Most schools won't allow that short of a skirt in the first place. No way would my daughter wear a skirt that short. I wouldn't even have to ask. It would be trashed.

Yes, I think its fine. If you aren't comfortable with her wearing that, buy her leggings to wear under her skirt.

well being a freshmen in high school i see little girls dressing like that all the time and it is not okay. Some people might consider a H.I.T (Ho in training)

No she shouldn't be wearing something that short noone should really at any age unless its for show as in modelling or they are a "working" girl

Your daughter is starting to try to explore her independance. I bet she knows that you don't approve of a skirt that short.

Try to avoid getting into a big fight with her! Discuss your concerns about her wearing a skirt that short, and aks her if she has any suggestions for a compromise. She needs to feel that she has some "power" in this issue, but it's your job, as a parent to a young woman, to guide her and instruct her in your personal morals/beliefs.

I'd suggest talking about how others would perceive her dressed in such a skirt.

Then, why not turn this into a positive? How about a shopping trip? Not just your regular mall… go someplace new (maybe a neighbouring town, or if you're in a suburband/rural area, the "big city"). Spend time with your daughter looking at fashion magazines, discussing what the trends are, then take her to the shops and look for age appropriate yet trendy outfits.

She wants to look cool and trendy, and is taking her cues from the media. But, do you really want your daughter dressing like Brittney Spears or Paris Hilton?

I'd also suggest maybe finding something to boost her sense of self. 12 year old girls can be very vulnerable to self-esteem issues. Having something like art classes (fashion design?!), piano or singing lessons, etc can give her a sense of confidence as well as another outlet for expressing herself.

Good luck! I don't envy you having a 12 year old daughter! I've got three boys, and right now, they could care less what they wore!!

No. As a mother you should trust what your heart tells you. First off she shouldn't be allowed to buy a skirt like that. I have a 10yr old and all her skirts must come to below the knees. I keep the same rule for myself.

Check the school's dress code guidelines. General rule of thumb is nothing shorter than finger tip length.

Even if it's otherwise appropriate, I still wouldn't let her wear it unless she wears leggings underneath it – which fortunately for her, is the fashion right now and makes that type of thing look more cute than trashy.

Also make sure she knows how to bend, sit etc.. when wearing shorter skirts.
