I want to have some things to wear in the summer, but I want to make them myself. Can anyone tell me (a person with no sewing experience) in simple terms, how to sew a long skirt (practically floor length)?

I want it to be fitted a little around my hips, and I also want it to have a zipper. My pants inseam is 34″, and my hips are 38″, if that helps any. I really want to get this down before the summer comes. Help!

ANSWER – Go somewhere that they sell fabric- a fabric store or even Walmart. Pick out your fabric and look for the patterns. If you don’t see them ask the clerk in that department to help you. Look for your size on the pattern. It will have the measurement on the pack.

A pattern will have the shapes of everything for you to cut out and will have the directions inside the package. There are simple to sew patterns and more complicated patterns. Be sure to check this out on the outside of the pack. Usually the clerks in the fabric departments are very helpful.

Rather than playing in the mandatory baggy shirts and shorts seen in the men’s games, the ladies from FD de Rakt showed off their silky skills in a pitch and fitted shirts and short skirts. Here’s more.

STORY:
Sexy football it isn’t… but the decision of FC de Rakt’s ladies soccer team to play the game in skirts and tight tops has fired women’s football into the headlines.

Since the amateur team from Uden in southern Holland changed their kit the club’s website has racked up hundreds of thousands of hits every week.

21-year-old team captain Rinske Temming denied the new feminine strip was a publicity stunt.

[Rinske Temming, Team Captain]:
“We think they are far more elegant than the traditional shorts and furthermore they are more comfortable.”

The amateur team’s new clothing initially faced a ban due to strict equipment rules but upon closer inspection the Dutch football association said it was acceptable after all as the women were still playing in shorts, albeit with a skirt over them.

The club’s chairman, Jan van den Elzen says “moving the goalposts” on what’s still perceived to be a male sport is long overdue.

[Jan van den Elzen, Soccer Club Chairman]:
“I think very many girls like to play in a skirt but they didn’t think it was possible.”

No doubt Fifa president Sepp Blatter would approve of FC de Rakt’s new look.

The world soccer chief scored an own goal four years ago after famously urging women footballers to wear skimpier kits to boost the popularity of the women’s game.

Although a certain look is always a rage because it is a season signature, the long slit skirt is a classic gem that typifies elegant, understated glamour. Usually worn by women in their late 20s and 30s, long skirts are generally preferred by confidant, sophisticated women who can boast a life well lived.

Leaf through any fall-winter fashion glossy, and there it is-long, slim and, if one’s figure is hourglass personified, slit to the thigh. Forget about the flirty floor-skimming skirts of yore. These new-look long skirts, slit to midthigh and snaking sinuously to the ankles in comfortable stretch fabrics, are a real class act. The difficulty with this chic look lies in successfully putting it all together. If you want to wear long, narrow skirts, the jacket has to be just the correct proportion and you must team it with high heels, or the look simply will not work.

Full peasant skirts, on the other hand, flatter most body types but in particular, petite girls should avoid wearing it, as it can tend to make them look too small in a crowd. Ankle-length peasant skirts are usually made of cotton voile and look best when teamed with a tank top and sandals. However, designers are increasingly going in for softer flowing fabrics like silk chiffon and organza for a light, graceful, even ethereal effect.

In hindsight, the long skirt is a perennial style but if you want to tailor it to suit your personality there are several interesting options one can experiment with. Why not go for an animal print of some kind? Snakeskin and leopard are long-time favorites. Or perhaps a deep, fur hemline for a touch of funk. Or a sheer white skirt liberally splashed with crystals … the possibilities are endless.

That is so stupid. Who agrees? I hate long skirts, they look weird on me b/c I’m so skinny but some girls can pull them off without looking prudish I think eveybody should stop automatically judging people as a prude or a W#ore by the type of Skirts Clothing they wear:[  That is all I have to say about that subject

I agree, but for me…sometimes I get called a s… and a prude for wearing a short skirt. A s… because I’m showing too much of my sexy legs, and a prude because I wouldn’t have sex with the guy while I’m wearing the short skirt.  Oh well…
